Is It True That Hot Water Is Not Included In Your Rental Fee When Renting In An Apartment Complex?

I’ve been hunting for an apartment, and as I found some that includes cooking gas and hot water; others don’t.
If I will be paying for electric and Gas, do that means that I will be paying for hot water, and the advertasing is missleading me to believe otherwise??

IN the US, ‘excluding lease contracts to the contrary’, the property manager must
provide, “a clean, safe, operating unit.”
in 99.5% of all cases, this includes
water. IT usually does not include electricity
or gas. Thus, getting water is the landlord’s
job, making it hot is yours.
    Does that help?
Please share with me what the ad says,
    EXACTLY.

It depends, is there a water heater in the apartment, or is there a centralized boiler for the entire building? I’ve lived in apartments that pay for water and hotwater, but not heat (but heat was electric), apartments that paid a/c, heat, water, and hot water, and rentals that didn’t pay any utilities at all. It just depends. if you are unsure if you have to pay for hot water, look to see if there is a water heater within the apartment.

In apartments where you pay your own gas and electric and the landlord pays the water bill, depending on the hot water tank, you’d pay for the gas or electric to heat the water, but not the water. I am a landlord and I pay the water bills, but my tenants pay for the gas that heats that water.

If water is paid in your apts that you find…the only thing about hot water is the electricity it costs to heat it…which is reflected in your electric/gas bill. If you pay for water then you pay both water/electric.

  5. Doctor Deth says:

depends on the heating source for the water and the location of the water heater – ask each place you talk to

each place is different. you won’t know until you ask.
