How Can You Keep Your Checked-in Luggage Weight Under 15kg (for Ryan Air Flights In The U.k)?

Saturday, February 27th, 2010

We will be flying into the U.K. in August from Australia.
Our international air carrier allows 20kg.
My wife is extremely nervous that she will be over that weight allowance, let alone being under 15kg for our Ryan Air flights.
Ryan Air charge 8 euros per kg over! Sounds like a rip-off.
So, my question really is: what measures can we take to reduce our checked-in luggage weight to 15 kg?
Should we wear all our heavy clothing on the plane over?
Should we take just enough clothes for a few days and wash and dry them frequently on our travels?
We would really appreciate any helpful feedback you can give us.

Does Your Employer Force You To Take Your Vacation Time Off?

Friday, February 26th, 2010

If I do not take my vacation time off, I loose the time off and forfeit the vacation pay as well. BUT I earned this vacation pay, yet I can not take this money to the bank and work that week saving the money for a better vacation next year or fixing something around the house. If I take the time off I will only be able to save a little of this money the rest will go to pay current bills as my normal pay check does. That’s Wal-Mart for you.

How Long Does It Take From The Time You Get Off A Plane To The Time You Picked Up Your Luggage?

Sunday, February 21st, 2010

Suze, the times can vary quite a bit due to the size and type of the aircraft, and how far you have to walk to get to the baggage claim area.
Aircraft like the MD-90 usually take the longest because they carry so many people and do not have containers for baggage, so each suitcase has to be handled individually by the crew doing the unloading. Wide body aircraft, like the B-747, B-777, B-767 have containers. It does not take long to unload the containers and put the suitcases on the carousel. The containers are hauled intact from the aircraft to the baggage unloading area.
The MD-80/90 can carry 172 passengers, and if each has one bag, that is 172 bags to go though the cargo door, down the conveyor and onto a baggage cart. Just the time it takes to move them through the door is considerable, particularly when you are just standing and waiting for the bags.
The airlines used to have goals to reach from the time the flight arrived to the arrival of the first bag at the claim area. I think that those goals were lost in the mist, at least from what I have seen. However, the employees that are unloading your aircraft really do try to get the job done as quickly as possible.

Dan
